I have been on a lifestyle changing diet since may2008. Due to the change I was able to bring my weight down from 134 to 110 kgs, and it is still falling.
I moved away from a diet which was dominated by prepared food from the restaurants, eateries and packaged food to cooking my own food. This way I was able to control the oil medium and regulate the quantities. I standardised on EVOO. I also realised that my predominantly vegetarian lifestyle was missing omega 3, so I supplemented it with cod liver oil, and then some more weekly portions of omega3 rich fish sources.
Recently, I had the realisation that I was moving away from my vegetarian upbringing, and after reading some texts I realised that even cod liver oil would be against the principles of acceptable diets. I was trying to make up my mind on this matter.
Coincidentally I also read "As a man thinketh" by James Allen recently, and recognised the truth in his thinking. We need to think "high standards" to achieve high standards. Then the connection between ‘satva’, ‘rajsa’ and ‘tamsa’ gunas and behaviour forced me to think again. I found that I had moved away from ‘tamsic’ and ‘rajsi’ food habits and at the same time I had started feeling the awakening of the dormant spirit within me. So there could be great truth in this matter of thoughts and food having a bearing on each other.
Today I got up and raided my refrigrator. I bundled all processed foods & packed them in a black plastic garbage bag. I affirmed to myself that I am entering into a satvic phase by choice with the full knowledge of its benefits. I will supplement my diet with walnuts, flaxseeds and organic omega3 tablets only. In short I will not have animal origin product (apart from milk, yoghurt, cottage cheese) in my bloodstream.
I have also found benefits of having reserved the morning holy hour (5-6AM) for spiritual reading, personal development etc. It is a habit now. I spend some time on exercise after this and I am ready for the day.
I hope to be lower than 100 kgs in the next 6 months, and eventually around 90 kgs, so that my body is healthy. A healthy body is useful for a healthy mind. A healthy mind is useful for healthy thoughts. As a man thinks, so does he acts. Amen
